How to Beat a Mugger
How to Beat a Mugger
By Adam Sinicki
Walking
the streets at
night these days can be a dangerous pass-time, but unfortunately it's
something that we do sometimes have to do. Fortunately, if you come
to the Biomatrix regularly, then you will be a bodybuilder who knows
parkour, several lethal take down moves and who's brain works at
double speed. When Bioneers are out walking the streets is unsafe for
the mugger.
Of course I should impart all the usual advice here – stick to the
well-lit areas, gravitate towards the large groups of people, take a
taxi where possible... blah, blah, blah. That's not what you want to
know though is it? What you want to know is how to take them down,
outsmart them, or generally beat them if necessary. Here we will look
at some techniques you can use.
Kick and Run: The first and possibly best technique of all
is to kick
them and run. This way you damage their knee caps and leave them
limping while you meanwhile can run away to safety. The target areas
are of course the kneecap or the groin. As long as you kick them hard
enough to slow them down, you'll be able to get away. It's the safest
and quickest way to beat a mugger. Shout 'Blitzkrieg!!!' while you do
it.
Climb: If you're genuinely good at parkour then you can
actually
climb away to beat a mugger – just launch yourself onto the nearest
bus shelter or in through someone's open flat window. It's running
away but it's running away in a very cool way. Normally they won't be
able to follow you – but if they do try you can just kick them down
from where you are.
Use a Decoy: Apparently when muggers tried to rob David
Coperfield he
used his sleight of hand techniques to make them believe his pockets
were empty. In reality he was carrying a wallet, a phone and a
passport. Legend.
Now I don't expect you to be able to do that. But what you can do is
to carry a bag (and recommend this technique to girlfriends too) and
put in it a fake decoy wallet. Fill this with maybe one fiver and a
few old debit cards and loyalty cards. Leave this loose in the bag
and keep your actual wallet hidden in a zip up compartment inside the
bag. Now if someone stops you, you can hand over your old wallet with
the old stuff in it and walk away happily. You can do this with a
phone too if you're particularly paranoid by keeping an old Nokia or
something loose in the bag.
Use a Weapon: If you
know you are
going to be walking somewhere late at night, or if you think you're
being followed – then getting a weapon is a great idea. Of course
you can't walk around with a gun or a knife or you could get into
legal difficulties (and people will think you're a psychopath) –
and if you noticed you're being followed then you can't exactly
materialise a gun out of thin air (that would be cool though). What
you can
do
though is to quickly make one – just tuck into a newsagents and buy
a tin of baked beans and ask for a carrier bag. Now if you're
attacked – swing the bag and hit the can straight into the
attacker's face. It's brilliant isn't it? You can carry this anywhere
without getting into trouble too, or failing that you can put a heavy
old phone into a carrier bag. You can even put this makeshift weapon
into your pocket and take it into clubs etc (I'm not condoning
starting fights in clubs but sometimes you need to be able to defend
yourself in there!). Evil right? Carry this always and
muggers/attackers are going down. If you're in the woods then stop
and pick up a big rock or stick and if you're really strong then pull
a drain cover off the floor and hit them with that. Surprise mofo!
Some More Advice on How to Beat a Mugger
At the same time you can always try using any of the take down
techniques I've outlined in my videos and articles before. Grabbing
the head and twisting it harshly to the left or right always makes
someone go down.
But the most important
thing is to
train yourself mentally for this occurrence. While you genuinely
should run away probably, if you do
get
into a fight
yourself then you need to think like they do. Don't play fair. Don't
be squeamish. Don't pull your punches. Think consciously about making
every move as forceful and as powerful as you can and make it all
count. Also don't worry about being 'manly' – if you need to pull
hair then do it. They attacked you, they have the element of surprise
and they probably have weapons so all bets are off and anything is
'fair'.
When I Nearly Got Mugged...
I was once nearly mugged and this all came in very useful for me. I
was only about 15 and I had just started bodybuilding and martial
arts but not majorly. I was with a friend and two guys came up to us
and asked for change. I said I didn't have any so the bigger one said
'show me your wallet'. To which I answered no obviously, before being
told that this was some guy you didn't mess with apparently. The guy
then got me in a headlock but I managed to take out his legs landing
us both on a car bonnet and setting off the alarm. That must have
been quite cool.
From there I managed
to pull the
guy's arm off because despite being younger, I was stronger. Go me.
Unfortunately he just grabbed me again and I realised I wasn't
willing to punch him in the face so I needed to take some other form
of decisive action. The best thing I decided here was to take his
little finger and bend it backwards. The first time nothing happened
and that's because I bent it back like anyone bends a little finger
back – carefully and squeamishly. Luckily I remembered something
I'd read online previously which was that you had to make these
things forceful and make them hurt so I tried again – this time
clamping the finger with full force, and then literally wrenching it
back and then down. It crumpled and crushed like paper and the guy
let go immediately before leaving. I was chuffed with myself for
fighting like a girl but those are the two very important lessons to
learn – if you are
going
to fight then
fight dirty and make every single movement, even the small ones, as
forceful as possible. The irony is I probably had about £1.50 in
that wallet anyway...
